WHY A DUCK?

On the 17th April 1937 Daffy Duck made his debut appearance in the film Porky's Duck Hunt. One of the great cartoons of the 1930's.

The film was directed by Tex Avery – with the voice of the great Mel Blanc as Porky and Daffy, with Billy Bletcher as the fish and guy upstairs. Billy Bl;etcher provided his bass voice in over 300 ‘toons’.

Tex Avery, along with Ben Hardaway and Bob Clampett under producer Leon Schlesinger also brought us the great Bugs Bunny who also debuted in a Porky Pig story, Porky’s Hare Hunt in 1938. Among the many cartoon characters Avery created are Daffy Duck, Droopy, Screwy Squirrel and Chilly Willy. Tex Avery is also credited with creating the basic personality of Bugs Bunny. He was the one who coined the phrase "What's up, Doc? Tex Avery was a descendant of Judge Roy Bean and Daniel Boone, but all his grandma ever told him about it was "Don't ever mention you are kin to Roy Bean. He's a no good skunk!!"

Schlesinger

It was produced by Leon Schlesinger., who produced over 460 animated shorts between 1929 and 1944. He was the inspiration for Daffy Duck’s lisp and brought us Looney Tunes and Merrie Melodies.

Animators Robert Cannon, Virgil Ross and Robert Clampett also workd on the film.

Have a nice Sunday.
