HEY FIDDLE DE DEE AN ACTOR'S LIFE FOR ME

The 1st of June is a day for actors, playwrights and poets.

On the 1st June 1857, Charles Baudelaire’s Les Fleurs du mal was published.

Van Druten
The 1st June  1901, was the birthday of John William Van Druten. He was an English playwright and theatre director, known professionally as John Van Druten. He began his career in London, and later moved to America becoming a U.S. citizen. He was known for his plays of witty and urbane observations of contemporary life and society.

He wrote the play Old Acquaintance as well as the screenplay for the film, staring Bette Davis and Miriam Hopkins. A brilliant duet for the two stars in 1943. Bette has one of her memorable lines.
There comes a time in every woman's life when the only thing that helps is a glass of champagne.

The 1st June is also the birthday of three British actors - Robert Powell 1944, Brian Cox 1946 and Jonathan Pryce 1947.
